Cover of Technology Vision2020-The U.S. Chemical Industry

The Chemical Industry Vision2020 Technology Partnership (Vision2020) was launched in 1996 with the publication of Technology Vision 2020-The U.S. Chemical Industry. This landmark document establishes a long-term path for the future of the chemical industry based on key market, business, and environmental needs. Priorities were established in New Chemical Science and Engineering Technology, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, and Manufacturing and Operations. Five chemical industry professional associations participated in the development of the Vision (see below), and over 300 industry leaders worked together to reach consensus. An ongoing process has been implemented to identify priority R&D needs, establish collaborative R&D projects, influence government funding, and help the chemical industry move from Vision to reality.

Participating professional organizations that participated in Vision development include:

  • American Chemical Society (ACS)
  • American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
  • American Chemistry Council (ACC)
  • Council for Chemical Research (CCR)
  • Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA)
