Materials of Construction

Process Equipment Materials

Goal

To promote funding and broader understanding of the chemical industry's ever-changing material needs as well as their energy, economic, and environmental burdens associated with corrosion and other materials performance and lifetime issues. Advancements will have significant pay-offs for the industry in operation efficiency and overall plant safety.

Accomplishments

  • Updated Roadmap for Process Equipment Materials Technology (PDF 370 KB). The earlier roadmap is The Materials of Construction Roadmap (PDF 569 KB).
  • Priority projects were co-funded by DOE/EERE Industrial Technologies Program, for example:
    • Intermetallics and alloys for ethylene reactors
    • Corrosion monitoring system
    • Prediction of corrosion alloys in mixed solvents
    • Metal dusting phenomenon and resistant materials
    • Alloy selection system for elevated temperatures
