Manufacturing Interagency Initiative

Goals

To serve as an industrial reviewer for white papers produced by the Interagency Working Group (IWG) on Manufacturing Research and Development. Vision2020 will explore additional opportunities to support the development of advanced manufacturing technologies that benefit the U.S. manufacturing sector and economy.

    • Address barriers to high volume, high rate nanomanufacturing
    • Process control systems
    • Theoretical and experimental tools
    • Metrology and advanced instrumentation technologies
  • Intelligent & Integrated Manufacturing Systems
    • Interface standards and tools to capture and exchange information
    • Sensing and control technologies and software
  • Manufacturing for the Hydrogen Economy
    • Standards to enable widespread interchangeability of parts
    • Process optimization and control
    • Infrastructure technologies
    • Modeling and simulation

Plan of Action
  • Conduct a federal review on programs important to manufacturing
  • Hold a National Manufacturing Forum for Industry and academia input
  • Identify manufacturing R&D priorities and opportunities for FY06
  • Develop a model for new partnerships to leverage funding between public/private and public/public partnerships
